At Brentwood Primary Care, we provide treatments for all common infections for our patients. Whether you are suffering from a cold, the flu, or something more serious, we are here to help you get back on your feet. Below are some of the most common infections we treat and how we treat them. Read on to learn more.
Colds and flu are both viruses that primarily affect the respiratory system. Symptoms of a cold can include a runny nose, congestion, sneezing, and a sore throat. Symptoms of the flu can include all of the above plus fever, chills, body aches, and fatigue. Colds and flu are both highly contagious and are typically spread through coughing and sneezing.
At our practice, we can prescribe medication to help relieve symptoms for both colds and flu. We also encourage our patients to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. For severe cases of the flu, we may also recommend hospitalization.
Strep throat is a bacterial infection that affects the throat and tonsils. Symptoms of strep throat can include a sore throat, fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Strep throat is usually spread through close contact with someone who is already infected or through contact with contaminated surfaces.
At our practice, we can prescribe antibiotics to clear up the infection. We also encourage our patients to drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest. We may also prescribe medication to help relieve pain and swelling associated with strep throat.
Ear infections are usually caused by either bacteria or viruses. Symptoms of an ear infection can include pain in the ear, fever, drainage from the ear, difficulty sleeping, irritability, and loss of balance. Ear infections are most common in infants and young children but can occur at any age.
At our practice, we will evaluate your symptoms to determine whether you have a viral or bacterial infection. If you have a viral infection, we will provide you with symptom relief but no antibiotic treatment will be necessary as viruses cannot be treated with antibiotics. If you have a bacterial infection, we will prescribe antibiotics to clear up the infection as well as provide symptom relief if needed.
We hope that this blog post has helped you better understand some of the most common infections that we treat at our practice. If you are suffering from any of the symptoms described above or think that you may have an infection, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can evaluate you and provide appropriate treatment.
